We are proud to work in partnership with
Dorset Climate Action Network (DCAN)
Across Dorset there are many different groups working towards a better world and there is a new umbrella organisation, the Dorset Climate Action Network, to bring us all together and be a central hub of information, expertise and wisdom. Their strapline is ‘Stronger Together!’ What more need we say?
Our Vision
Dorset CAN – OUR DREAM FOR DORSET
Aware of the fierce urgency of the climate and nature emergency, as coral reefs bleach and ice caps and glaciers melt, as forest fires rage and droughts and floods increase, as species are lost at unprecedented rates, our dream is for a:
Zero Carbon Dorset
where the whole county (council, businesses and residents) has stopped causing further climate overheating with carbon emissions from our homes, buildings, cars and energy use.
Bright Blue Dorset
where every river and stream and beach in Dorset is safe to swim or play in. (Currently our rivers and seas are amongst the most polluted in Europe).
Wild Green Dorset
where chemical pesticides, fungicides and herbicides are no longer used and tree-planting, meadow and heathland regeneration and spreading hedgerows allow the wild things to live and regenerate across the county.
Locally Fed Dorset
where more and more communities grow food locally and more and more schools, care homes, businesses, restaurants, cafés and private homes use locally grown food.
Community Centred Dorset
where people of all ages, incomes and backgrounds can afford to live and participate equally in active local communities with schemes for sharing, repairing and recycling and public transport every hour.
Sparkling Clean Dorset
with radically reduced levels of air pollution and litter alongside a complete halt to selling and using single-use plastics
Great Dorset Hedge
Our campaign to restore and extend the hedgerows of Dorset. We are creating a network of healthy hedgerows helping to support biodiversity and protect against the effects of climate change. To find out more, click here
Dorset Climate Action Network (DCAN) has a major long term project to create wildlife corridors throughout Dorset!
This exciting project includes our local parishes. There are already over 100 volunteers at work along the route, but as it is over 100 miles long more help is needed!
The hedge will initially go along the Jubilee Way – the bridle-way skirting the South West corner of Martinstown parish. The plan is to survey the state of existing hedges all along the route of the Jubilee Way and nearby, which will inform what needs to be done in terms of planting.
If you are interested in helping as a volunteer surveyor, coordinator and eventually a planter of hedge trees – please do get in contact. greenmartinstown@gmail.com
